Daniel Bryan defeated John Cena to become WWE Champion with a swift running knee in the middle of the ring. Cena shaked Bryan's hand after the match and shared some words with him. Orton then came out and held up his MITB contract for Bryan to see. Bryan urged Orton to come into the ring and cash in his contract, but Orton turned away.
As Orton was turning back to head toward the backstage area, Triple H, who was the special referee for the WWE Championship match, kicked Daniel Bryan in the gut and delivered the pedigree on him. Orton then came into the ring and cashed in his MITB contract. The Viper rolled up Bryan, who was out from the pedigree, and scored the three-count to become WWE Champion.
