Two fan gripes kept coming up during the August 20 PWTorch.com and ProWrestling.net livecasts about the final segment of the post-SummerSlam edition of Raw.
During the Randy Orton WWE Championship Coronation segment, fans were bothered by The Shield serving as the muscle for the new McMahon Family heel faction. The feeling is that The Shield members operate as renegades with their own agenda independent of the wishes of WWE management.
Fans were also bothered by all the babyfaces on the Raw roster standing on the entrance ramp watching as Daniel Bryan was getting beat up by The Shield and doing nothing about it. The feeling is that WWE babyfaces' loyalty to one another is outweighed by their fear of getting fired.
PWTorch.com Editor Wade Keller said promoters' role is to look like they put a bunch of outlaws and rebels together who would otherwise get in bar and street fights if they didn't have a wrestling ring in which they could beat one another up because that's how they're hard-wired. Now wrestlers are just a bunch of sports entertainers who are paid to do what The McMahons tell them to do, he said.
ProWrestling.net Editor Jason Powell said the rebellion factor is gone in WWE babyfaces. Powell said while the babyfaces don't have to be like Steve Austin, they should at least come off like they're willing to do what's right even if it means getting fired.
